Discover Hoa Mai 5 Vietnamese- Chinese Restaurant

If you’re driving through Ordot and craving something hearty, flavorful, and comforting, Hoa Mai 5 Vietnamese- Chinese Restaurant at 111 Dero Rd, Ordot, 96910, Guam is one of those places that quietly wins you over. The first time I stopped by, it wasn’t because of flashy signage or trendy décor. It was because several locals told me, almost in the same words, that this was hidden gem territory for Vietnamese and Chinese comfort food on the island.

The menu is where things get exciting. You’ll find Vietnamese classics like pho with deeply aromatic broth, layered with star anise, cinnamon, and slow-simmered beef bones. According to culinary research from the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, authentic pho broth is traditionally simmered for at least six to eight hours to extract full flavor and nutrients. After tasting the beef pho here, I wouldn’t be surprised if they follow a similar method. The broth is clear yet rich, and the balance between herbs, meat, and rice noodles feels intentional rather than rushed.

On the Chinese side, their stir-fried dishes and noodle plates bring that familiar wok hei-the slightly smoky aroma that food scientists often describe as the hallmark of proper high-heat stir-frying. I once ordered a seafood chow mein and watched, from the semi-open kitchen, as the cook moved swiftly between burners. The vegetables stayed crisp, the shrimp tender, and the sauce clung perfectly to the noodles without drowning them. That kind of execution doesn’t happen by accident; it reflects experience and control over heat and timing.

What stands out most in reviews, both from regulars and first-time visitors, is consistency. In the restaurant world, consistency is everything. The National Restaurant Association often points out that repeat customers are driven by reliable quality and service. Over multiple visits, I’ve noticed that the portion sizes remain generous and the flavors stay steady. Whether it’s spring rolls with fresh herbs and vermicelli or a plate of fried rice loaded with barbecue pork, you get what you expect every single time.

The dining space itself is casual and welcoming. Think no-frills diner vibes-simple tables, practical layout, and a steady flow of families, workers on lunch breaks, and groups of friends catching up. It’s not trying to be upscale, and that’s part of its charm. You come here for satisfying food, not elaborate plating. The staff greets regulars by name, and even as a visitor, I was given thoughtful menu suggestions when I hesitated between dishes.

One thing I appreciate is how the restaurant bridges two culinary traditions without making the menu feel scattered. Vietnamese rice plates sit comfortably alongside Chinese-style stir-fries and soups. That dual focus reflects Guam’s multicultural food scene, where Asian cuisines have long influenced local tastes. In practice, it means you can order a bowl of pho while your friend digs into sweet and sour pork, and both of you leave happy.

From a practical standpoint, the location at 111 Dero Rd makes it accessible if you’re commuting through Ordot or heading across central Guam. Parking is straightforward, and service moves at a reasonable pace even during peak hours. During one busy weekend lunch, I timed the wait from order to table at just under 15 minutes, which is impressive considering the volume of dine-in and takeout requests.

If there’s any limitation, it’s that the décor and ambiance may not appeal to those looking for a trendy, Instagram-focused setting. However, that trade-off seems intentional. The focus remains squarely on flavor, portion value, and dependable cooking. For many diners, that’s exactly what matters.

Overall, this spot delivers what it promises: authentic Vietnamese soups, well-executed Chinese dishes, generous servings, and friendly service. Whether you’re exploring Guam’s food scene or simply searching for a reliable place with a diverse menu, this Ordot favorite continues to earn its reputation the old-fashioned way-through solid cooking and loyal customer reviews.

  • Food was great although the rice portion wad only one bowl full for a regular entree. Prices are great as well as the portions of the food for that low price. Waitress was ok although TEA needed a bit more sugar or lemon nut other than that. Phone kept ringing but only one waitress on duty - handling the register, taking orders at the counter and at the tables, and bussing her own tables.
